2025-01-10: *Admissions, Retention and Graduation* New Tableau Data Sources and Dashboards
** This announcement was sent to University Student Data Mart Users on January 10, 2025.
We are excited to introduce new Tableau data sources and dashboards to help you make more informed decisions and streamline your business processes.
What's New?
Admissions Data Sources – Undergraduate and Graduate (User Guide): Three related dashboards are available to the University community: Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, and Admissions Lists. These resources will,
Support high-level reporting, focusing on the milestones reached by applicants over time (the “admissions funnel”).
Help create mailing lists, identify student groups, and perform quick searches for specific applications.
Retention and Graduation Data Source (User Guide): The updated data source and its accompanying Retention and Graduation dashboard track academic persistence for first-time, full-time bachelor's students. It shows student retention from first to second year and graduation rates at 4 and 6 years, following Federal Student Right-to-Know Act guidelines, matching the University Fact Book publication.
What Do I Need to Know?
University data users relying on the ST Admissions and ST Cohort Cognos packages should begin transitioning to the new enterprise Tableau resources as soon as possible. The old Cognos packages will be phased out in the coming months. Starting early allows time to get comfortable with Tableau while still having access to Cognos reports for validation.
To access the new dashboards and data sources, visit the web pages below.
In Case You Missed It:
If you haven't had a chance to read through our recent communications, you’ll find them indexed here. Here are a couple of highlights:
New Class Enrollment and Grades (User Guide): Track students’ academic performance and enrollment details.
New Active Student (User Guide): Provides a breakdown of students by program or degree, generates contact lists, and identifies students with outstanding service indicators, specific advisors, etc.
We encourage you to explore our Tableau documentation as the University shifts from Cognos to Tableau’s modernized data visualization and reporting tools. As always, we’re here to help and welcome feedback for resource improvements.
Best regards,
