Connecting Tableau to OneDrive

Tableau allows you to connect to Excel file stored on SharePoint or OneDrive as your data source. Instructions on how to embed this connection on Tableau Server provided below.

The instructions below are for updating a connection that already existed on Server.

If you are creating or updating a OneDrive file through Tableau Desktop, please note that you must be using Tableau version 2025.1 and when you create /edit the OneDrive data source, you’ll have to replace the old reference http://login.microsoftonline.com and with the new one https://login.microsoftonline.com/9ef9f489-e0a0-4eeb-87cc-3a526112fd0d

To host the connection on Server: navigate to our Tableau Server as https://analytics.pitt.edu - and the follow the instructions outlined below:

  1. Locate and click on the icon (usually your initials) in the upper-right corner of the screen;

  2. On the drop-down menu, select “My Account Settings”

  3. In the pane that pops up, select the “Settings” tab

  4. Scroll down to the “Saved Credentials for Data Sources” section and find “OneDrive and SharePoint Online” and click the Add hyperlink.

  5. In the window that pops up, delete the current information and paste the following text / url:

  1. Next, you should be prompted to login:

  1. Once your setup is working, you should see your credentials ready to go. Click “Test” to confirm they are working as expected.
