Description
Class Schedule Basic dashboard is a “Basic” dashboard, meaning it’s a starter dashboard that answers basic questions about class schedule and can be used as a starting point to create other reports in Web Edit. The dashboard provides information about class schedule. It does not have data of individual students enrolled in a class. For cases requiring analysis of student enrollment in courses, please use Class Enrollment data (still in development). The dashboard excludes cancelled classes and College in High School classes. If you need to see cancelled classes, please create a report using Cancelled Classes data source, located in Explore / *Student Tableau folder
Key Business Questions
Class Schedule Basic gives users the ability to analyze classes offered, and get information about classes. No individual student data is in this dashboard.
Basic Usage
Class Schedule Basic has three separate dashboards/tabs
Class Schedule
This dashboard provides a breakdown of classes (excluding College in High School and cancelled classes) listed in Peoplesoft for the Academic Term selected and aggregate enrollment and other characteristics.
Sample questions answered by this dashboard:
what undergraduate classes are offered in the Fall term of 2023 for Accounting?
what classes are offered by School of Education?
how many students are enrolled in my classes and what is the class enrollment capacity?
what classes are online classes? (select Instructional Delivery Method in Class Attribute drop-down filter)
what is the Status of my classes (Open/Closed)?
how many students are enrolled by Academic Organization?
show me under enrolled classes, or classes enrolled at 100% capacity.
show me all Independent Study classes in ARTSC
what are the meeting days/times for my classes?
Users can limit the classes they want to see by using the drop-down filters: per academic term, subject, etc.; by typing in a catalog number; or by clicking on a blue bar in a visualization. We strongly recommend applying at least one of the filters to optimize performance. You can reset the filters by clicking on a Revert button:
Distinct Classes Shown counts every class component and combined class instance separately. For example, the class CS 1510/2012, which includes one lecture and one recitation, is counted as four classes (CS1510 Lecture, CS1510 Recitation, CS2012 Lecture, and CS2012 Recitation). In other way, it counts the distinct number of “class numbers” in an “academic term”. Distinct Classes Shown total may not match the number of rows in the table, as a single class may be associated with multiple instructors, meeting day/time patterns, etc.
Instructor Load
This dashboard summarizes the profile of university instructors and details of their teaching load.
Use the drop-down menus to limit instructors per academic term, academic organization, etc.
Click on an instructor name in the table (left of the screen) to view a specific instructor’s full teaching load across all Schools and Course Components and instructor's historical teaching load.
Course Instructor
This dashboard lists courses and their instructors, and basic information about instructors. It can be adapted to your specifications by using Tableau's Web Edit.
What is the source of this information?
Class Schedule Basic Dashboard is created from a Tableau Class Schedule data source. This data source is a close replica of an existing Cognos “St Class Schedule Query” package and is built from the student data mart (UD_DATA). Student data mart, in turn, pulls data from PeopleSoft and is a day behind: the data available today in data mart and Class Schedule data source is yesterday’s PeopleSoft data. New data entered in PeopleSoft today will be in student mart and Class Schedule data source and dashboard tomorrow.
How do I get access?
Anyone with access to the student mart (ST) will have access to the Class Schedule Basic Dashboard. All users can see all classes; however some instructor fields are restricted. The restricted fields are citizenship, education level, employee number, ethnic group, tenure, full-part time status, gender.
To request access to the restricted instructor fields please fill out Student Mart Federated Authorization and ask for Instructor Demographics restricted access:
