Planned Changes to Data Infrastructure

Currently, data from the Student, Employee, and GL marts is served to the campus community from our on-premise Oracle data warehouse. Users with a database account and an appropriate VPN role can connect directly to the data warehouse to retrieve data with SQL.

Beginning in 2022 Pitt IT Analytics began work on a modern data lake and lakehouse (i.e. data warehouse) hosted in AWS, using AWS’s Redshift database. While the underlying database systems are changing, the structure of the marts will remain the same, allowing users who have existing queries or reports to repoint them to the new location with minimal rework.

For more information, please visit the Analytics Modernization page.
