Tips for Providing Feedback on Tableau Dashboards and Data Sources

Pitt IT Analytics is dependent on feedback from Pitt’s data users to build great products. Below are some tips for providing us feedback that let’s us quickly act - to fix a bug, understand your need, or figure out the right question to ask.

Create and Save a Tableau View

If you are seeing data that doesn’t look right on a Tableau Dashboard, one of the best ways to help a developer understand it is to create a saved Tableau View. A Tableau view can preserve your filter selections so that the problem you are seeing can easily be replicated. Replicating the problem is often times the toughest part of solving any IT issue.

If you encounter an issue, follow the steps below to create a custom view that captures your issue, and send the name or URL of that view to the Pitt IT Analytics Team to investigate.

Place your Cognos report in a Share Folder

If you have a Cognos report you’ve made that you’d like to be sure can be addressed by Tableau, you may need to place a copy of that report in a Shared folder so that Pitt IT Analytics can view it.
