Connect to Tableau Server from Tableau Desktop

Once you’ve installed the Tableau Desktop Client on your machine, you’ll want to connect to Tableau Server to the University’s Tableau Server to connect to Data Sources and to publish and share your own workbooks.

 Instructions

To connect to Tableau Server:

  1. From the Tableau Desktop Client, navigate to the Server menu and select Sign In…

  2. You should see a box like the one below. Enter https://analytics.pitt.edu into the Server box.

  1. Click Connect and the box should close and new browser window will open that will prompt you to login to Pitt Passport (if you aren’t already logged-in). Once you are successfully logged-in, you should see the following message in your browser window:

I’m Connected! What’s Next?

From here, you can:

  • Connect to a Tableau Data Source

  • Publish your workbook to Tableau Server, by selecting Server > Publish to Server.
