Alteryx Upgrade Guidance
This page offers guidance on how to prepare for and handle our upcoming Alteryx Server upgrades.
Step 1: Download and Install Alteryx Designer v. 2024.2
To connect to our Server post-upgrade, you need to have Alteryx Designer installed on your machine. Users are allowed to have two installs on a single machine and license key, as long as one is an Admin install and the other is a User install.
The version of your Alteryx Designer application must match the Alteryx Server version to connect to the Server. If your version does not match our Server environment, you will not be able to open / upload workflows or Data Connections.
Pitt’s New Alteryx Server environment is Version: 2024.2.1.94 Patch: 3
This download is available via the Alteryx licensing portal [or through Software Downloads - pending request]
Step 2: Install Marketplace Add-Ons
Once you’ve installed the Alteryx Designer application, we recommend you install any Alteryx Marketplace connectors that you might use. Previously, you were required to navigate to the Alteryx portal to download your apps. Now, you can download and install your connector directly from Designer!
From Alteryx Designer, navigate to the Add-Ons menu, and then select Manage Marketplace Add-Ons:
In the box that follows, search for the tools you’re looking for. Before you install, click on the caret (^) to the right of the ‘Install’ button to view details about the tool, and make sure that the version offered matches what we currently have on Alteryx Server, listed here.
Once you click on blue status:INSTALL button, Alteryx will download the tool. After the download is complete, you should see a window pop up that asks you if you want to install the new Connector. Click Install (again) to install the Connector.
Step 3: Update your Workflows
Once you have installed all of the updated versions of your workflows, you’ll want to update your workflows to use these new Connectors. To do so, open your workflow from Alteryx Server (in Designer version 2024.2). Outdated Connectors should light up red with an error message like the following:
Error…: This tool uses Python version 3.8. Please install an updated tool YXI that uses Python 3.10 for Designer 2024.2.
To update your Connector, right-click on the affected tile and in the menu, select Choose Tool Version > and then select the version that you’ve installed (please verify that it matches the version on Server).
In our old version (2022.1), we often had to turn AMP Engine off to prevent inexplicable errors. Most of those issues have been resolved, and all connectors will require AMP ending is ON. So, if you are still seeing errors, please make sure that the AMP Engine is turned on or you may see puzzling errors.
Step 4: Test your workflow locally
Do a test-run on your local machine, to make sure that nothing was impacted by these changes.
Step 5A: Publish your Workflow
Once you have confirmed that your workflow works on your machine, save your workflow on Server (please use Save and not Save As… so that you still have only one workflow on Server!) When you save, please uncheck the Validate workflow then save. We are still troubleshooting an issue that causes workflows with Connectors to hang when being validated.
Step 5B: Sync and SHARE Data Connections
On Server Gallery, please be sure to save your workflow connection with the Alteryx Server Admin group (as shown below):
After publishing and sharing credentials, you may want to do a test run from Server as well, just to make sure that the workflow works correctly. If you do, please just check to make sure that the workflow is not hung up (if you discover it is, please cancel the WF and let us know!)
