2025-04-01: Additional Training for Existing Cognos GL Users

The following message was sent to all GL Mart users on April 1, 20225. There are three unique sessions with multiple dates available.

As part of our ongoing efforts to prepare users for the upcoming retirement of Cognos, we will be hosting three additional GL Mart-specific sessions.

Using the Fiscal Panther Hub to get Level Report Information

The purpose of this event is to demonstrate how to find standard Cognos GL level report information in the Fiscal Panther Hub.  We will review how to find information available in the following Cognos reports: Level I (FGAR311), II (FGAR321-2), III (FGAR332, Labor Distribution (HLDR310).  Mapping information can be found here.

Converting Existing Custom GL Cognos Reports into Tableau Workbooks

The purpose of this event is to demonstrate how to convert a custom Cognos report built from an existing query package into a Tableau workbook using the new data sources using the free Tableau Web Edit tool. The three primary GL query packages (transaction, monthly and labor) have been converted to Tableau data sources and are available to existing users.   Additional training resources can be found here.

Creating a New Source and Dashboard to Apply Custom Security

The purpose of this event is to demonstrate how to create a custom GL Mart view with personalized security settings.  This session is designed for users who need to distribute data to individuals without direct access to GL Mart. We will showcase how to create a new view and apply security at the purpose segment level, allowing users to restrict access to specific purpose numbers within a department segment. This approach can also be used to grant access to other segments within a GL account as needed.  A Tableau Desktop license is required for this functionality.

Documentation
We encourage you to explore our Dashboard and Data Source documentation and our Pitt Data Universe as the University shifts from Cognos to Tableau’s modernized data visualization and reporting tools.
